Preparing for Emergencies

In the West Midlands, the Local Resilience Forum brings together the emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance) and other organisations such as local authorities, health, environment agency, utilities etc.

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a statutory obligation on all Category 1 responders (as defined under the Act) to carry out a risk assessment. This risk assessment helps these organisations develop emergency plans and business continuity plans that are sound and proportionate to the risks that exist within the West Midlands.

Preparing for emergencies

The government has launched a national initiative to ensure the country is prepared, as much as it possibly can be, if we experience a major emergency.

To ensure our communities are resilient, it is important that local people play a role in helping the government reach this objective. An informed community is a prepared community and you can help by taking a few minutes to read the "Preparing For Emergencies" web pages (external site), published by HM Government.

This booklet will provide you and your family with advice on what to do if you are involved with any emergency and will also give information as to what the government is doing to protect the country.
